Check Valves for Backflow Prevention

Swing, lift, or wafer design?
Swing check valves have a low pressure drop and are well suited to larger pipelines with steady, low-velocity flow such as water supply and wastewater systems. They are not ideal for pulsating flow conditions. Lift check valves provide a more positive seal under pressure and are commonly used in steam, gas, and high-pressure applications. Wafer check valves are the most compact option, fitting directly between pipeline flanges, and are a practical choice where installation space is limited.

Horizontal or vertical installation?
Standard swing and lift check valves are typically installed in horizontal pipelines. If the pipeline runs vertically, a vertical lift check valve should be selected, as it is specifically designed to seal reliably against the direction of gravity in a vertical orientation.

Which standard?
Select the standard that matches your existing piping system: GB for projects following Chinese national specifications, API for international and oil and gas projects, and JIS for Japanese and some Southeast Asian projects.

Which body material?
WCB carbon steel is suitable for general water, steam, oil, and gas service. SS304 (CF8) and SS316 (CF8M) are specified where greater corrosion resistance is required, such as chemical processing or food-grade applications.

Do you need a strainer?
If the pipeline carries media with suspended particles or debris, installing a strainer upstream of a check valve, pump, or other sensitive equipment helps prevent damage and maintain reliable sealing performance over time. Y-type strainers are compact and suited to general filtration; basket-type strainers offer greater debris capacity and are easier to clean.
