Embora o pH n\u00e3o seja diretamente prejudicial a estas concentra\u00e7\u00f5es, \u00e9 um indicador importante da estabilidade da \u00e1gua. Um n\u00edvel inferior a 6,5 est\u00e1 normalmente associado a um aumento da concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de metais pesados dissolvidos, incluindo o chumbo e o cobre, que s\u00e3o mobilizados devido \u00e0 lixivia\u00e7\u00e3o das tubagens. Por outro lado, concentra\u00e7\u00f5es superiores a 8,5 causam um sabor amargo distinto e uma perda abrupta da efic\u00e1cia da clora\u00e7\u00e3o, comprometendo a seguran\u00e7a biol\u00f3gica do abastecimento.<\/div><\/li><li class=\"ace-line ace-line old-record-id-MmWidqZAQovtvuxD561chEQjn5d\" data-list=\"bullet\"><div><strong>Efluente de \u00e1guas residuais: <\/strong>As licen\u00e7as de descarga de \u00e1guas residuais industriais exigem normalmente um pH entre 6,0 e 9,0 para salvaguardar a integridade ecol\u00f3gica dos corpos receptores. Mas no caso de efluentes industriais especializados, especialmente nas ind\u00fastrias mineira, de galvanoplastia e t\u00eaxtil, n\u00e3o h\u00e1 espa\u00e7o para mais. Estas ind\u00fastrias s\u00e3o obrigadas a atingir determinados pontos isoel\u00e9ctricos para se certificarem de que os metais residuais s\u00e3o completamente precipitados e eliminados antes da descarga. Por exemplo, o n\u00edvel \u00f3timo de precipita\u00e7\u00e3o do n\u00edquel situa-se num pH espec\u00edfico de cerca de 10,2, enquanto o zinco se situa numa gama de 9,2.
